Jan 9: Welcome and Introductions

Welcome! This is our first week together. We’ll be getting to know each other a little, and you’ll learn what the course is all about. There’s nothing formally due yet but don’t miss it – we’ll be covering some pretty important stuff, you’ll have a few “mini badges” to complete to get your feet under you, and we’ll formally begin the learning.

Date / timeActivities and topicsThings due or required
Monday hour 1Welcome and introduction (to each other and to the course)-
Monday hours 2-3You’ll "Challenge the Minefield" and we’ll wrap up for the day. And I will hand out your first ideastorming assignment (you should bring this to the next class and submit it as part of the mini courses due on Wed Jan 18).-
Fri Jan 13You should do the following mini courses to get your feet under you, learn your way around this site, and earn your first few mini badges: [user_role_editor except_roles="administrator, alex-student"] These require you to do your first ideastorming assignment that was handed out on Monday. See D2L for further details.[/user_role_editor] [user_role_editor roles="administrator, alex-student"] These require you to do your first ideastorming assignment that was handed out on Monday. See D2L for further details.[/user_role_editor]Ideally, these mini courses will be completed before the regularly scheduled class period next Monday the 16th. But because new people have joined us and everyone needs to be upgraded on the site first, I am going to wait to assess them until noon on Wednesday the 18th.

Jan 16: Ideastorming

Welcome to our second week together. We’ll be getting to know each other better and we’re going to discuss the course in more detail. You’re coming in from the last week having done some personal ideastorming, which we’ll take further as you work to develop some basic skills.

And it includes a small group activity in which we’ll do some "brute force" ideation (that we will later contrast to other approaches). You need to bring your ideastorming assignment with you to this activity.
Wed Jan 18[user_role_editor except_roles="administrator, alex-student"]Today I’ll hand out your second ideastorming assignment, which accompanies the personal ideastorming worksheet I handed out at the end of class on Monday.[/user_role_editor] [user_role_editor roles="administrator, alex-student"]Today I’ll hand out your second ideastorming assignment, which accompanies the personal ideastorming worksheet I handed out at the end of class on Monday.[/user_role_editor] It is due in class and online at the start of class on Monday Jan 23.
