On September 22 2017 I returned to speak as master educator at the 18th annual Experiential Classroom in Gainesville Florida. As described on their website:

“The Experiential Classroom is the premier clinic for faculty who are relatively new to the teaching of entrepreneurship and the building of entrepreneurship programs. We share best practices in entrepreneurship education from some of the thought leaders and master educators in the field. Over 1100 faculty members have attended this intense, three-day clinic. Delegates must attend all three days. The Experiential Classroom is offered once a year and takes place on the campus of the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. Attendance is limited to 75 delegates each year. The experience is personalized with ample opportunity to interact with the presenters both inside and outside the classroom.”

It’s an amazing experience and I love going there every year in large part because of the amazing people that attend. There are faculty members from all over North America and from other parts of the world. And because of the amazing 3 to 1 ratio of master teachers to delegates.

I gave a talk to delegates introducing the concept of Idea Modeling.

And I managed to get (just) enough camera and recording equipment on the plane with me to make the following halfway decent recording of the session:

In the session we make use of some of the materials found in our creative commons toolkit (and, for those who prefer not to print them for themselves, also found on our shop).

Overall, the goal was to provide an introduction to idea modeling and how it can be used to help you help your students design really big value ideas – ideas that are the same time highly impact and imminently feasible.

We talk about design thinking and Deliberate Opportunity Design (discussed here under the heading ‘The Many Tools Dilemma’).

And we do some basic training on the use of the Idea Napkin and some of the specific tools you can use to help people assess and validate their own ideas.

For interest’s sake, this material is also covered and supported for your students if you use the Idea Maker course as a ‘super textbook’ in your classes. And educators can get full access to that through our Idea Maker for Educators initiative.
